While only about 10% of reported oil spills and pollution in a neighbourhood originate from home heating fuel tanks, a few simple actions can help prevent them altogether!  The first line of defense to prevent fuel leaks is to periodically inspect your fuel tanks for any possible leaks. In case of a spill or leak:

• Contain the spill as close to the source as possible.
• Don't flush oil spills into a house or municipal drain.
• Call Provincial Emergency Program (P.E.P.) 1-800-663-3456.
• Contact your insurance company as soon as possible for clarification about your policy.
