The Douglas Street Connector Project -- Update
|
|
In 2001 the Quadra Local Area Plan identified the need for a mixed-use trail link between the Douglas/Ralph and the Douglas/McKenzie intersections.
Saanich developed a conceptual plan for this link in the Spring of 2009, and these plans were the subject of a neighbourhood open house.
Many of those in attendance supported the construction of a pedestrian link; many remained concerned about the possible impact of some components of the plan.
The primary concerns were related to the following three issues:
- Cutting through the berm at the intersection of the north-west corner of Rainbow Park with McKenzie Avenue and the Patricia Bay Highway off-ramp,
- The privacy concerns of neighbours in close proximity to the proposed trail, and
- Public safety with a mixed use trail cutting through a busy park with both the elderly and families using the park’s facilities.
The revised concept plan is posted below and this plan will now provide the basis for the further detailed design, which is necessary before construction.
Revised Concept Plan
