The Upside Teen Activity Centre is a safe, welcoming, drug and alcohol-free environment for pre-teens and teens to socialize and develop new skills in a supervised, supportive and friendly environment. This 3000 sq ft space is complete with foosball, ping pong, and pool tables, a surround sound & big screen T.V. entertainment area, Playstation 2, Wii, a giant chess/checker board, and as well a sound recording studio. Offering diverse youth programs and activities, this facility provides opportunities for 10-18 year olds to gain valuable skills in leadership, employment, community involvement and personal development. We offer FREE after-school and evening drop-in programs, girls & guys groups, girls groups, teen leadership programs, and outdoor summer adventure programs.  Rentals of the teen centre are also available.  Check out our website at www.teen.saanich for more info.

  • Kinesis wall, the second one in all of Canada, allows 360 degree ground based movement with resistance.  Ideal for all types of strength training and rehabilitation.  Fully wheelchair accessible.

Services:

  • Weightroom orientations – Learn safe and effective use of the cardio and strength training equipment during this 90 minute session.  Our Fitness Centre staff will familiarize you with our facility and give you the basic information you need to get a great workout.  Correct posture and an overview of which exercises will target certain muscles included.
  • Personal Training –to suit your individual needs.  Kick start your fitness routine with personalized instruction and a program that works toward your goals.  Develop a solid work out plan or revise your current one. 
  • Exercise Rehabilitation Program – customized program for at home or in our facility after an illness, injury or period of inactivity.  Ideal for: chronic illnesses, post surgical rehabilitation, physical challenges, motor vehicle or work related injuries.  Exercise may be done in the pool or in our Fitness Centre.
  • Take Heart – in partnership with the Vancouver Island Health Authority.  A safe, medically guided exercise program for men and women of all ages who have experienced a heart attack, heart surgery, angina or other cardiac event. Our program emphasizes return to regular activities and includes links to a registered dietician, stress management and smoking cessation.  Doctor’s approval is necessary.  Staff include an ACSM certified exercise specialist and registered nurse, Sandy Gilmour.
  • Swimming – Swim where the athletes train!  Enjoy our 50m competition pool, 25m dive tank or 25m teach pool.  To plan your workouts pick up a weekly length swimming schedule or check the schedules page.
  • Steamroom, Sauna and Swirlpool – Perfect for relaxing at any time.
  • Childminding – We have an excellent childminding service offering quality care in a safe, friendly and fun environment each weekday morning.  Parents can enjoy the facility while leaving the kids with us.

Nutritional Consulting

 General Nutrition Session
For people who may be trying to gain or lose weight; struggling with low energy levels; craving sugar; experiencing mood swings; need help following a special diet or just want to make sure you’re their on the right track.  The session involves an assessment of your current intake from your food record. Nutritional advice in the form of small doable steps that are designed to help you make changes that you can live with forever thereby achieving lasting results.

Sports Nutrition Session
Looking to ramp up your diet so the effort you are putting in turns into results. A good diet is an essentially part to any training regime. Carol will assess your diet for adequacy specific to your sport using your food record and provide solutions to overcoming the challenges in getting all that you need to help you reach your full potential. This session differs from the general session in that specific information on sports nutrition will be shared.

Physiotherapy Services

We are pleased to welcome Marcia Kirby, Registered Physiotherapist to our health care team.

Optimize Health and Function:  Registered physiotherapists are experts in movement and mobility, body mechanics, muscles and joints. They will assess injuries and develop specific treatment plans to restore optimum health and function. Treatment types include manual therapy, joint manipulations, acupuncture, IMS, and exercise prescription.

Office Hours:
Monday  10am - 6pm, Tuesday 7am - 3pm, Thursday 11am - 7pm

Rates:  $55.00 per session
Physiotherapy is covered by most extended health plans.
