General Fitness Information


The following is a guideline to the types of fitness programs offered at our recreation centres. Specific schedules for each recreation centre can be found on our schedules web page.

Land Fitness

Mild Groupfit / Low Impact Aerobics
A low impact class with fun easy-to-follow moves. Minimum 20 minute cardio. Not intended for rehabilitation.

Hi Lo Group Fitness / Moderate Aerobics
A moderate intensity class with a 25-30 minute cardio. Hi and low impact options.

Stretch & Strength
A great exercise combination of strength and flexibility exercises. Workout will include free weights, tubing and a great abdominal work-out.

Step
A total body step workout, minimum 30 minute cardio.

Super Step
A class for the experienced stepper with a 40 minute extended cardio.

Advanced Step
Choreographed combinations for the experienced stepper.

Step & Strength
More challenging step combinations with strengthening exercises using weights and tubing along with a great abdominal workout.

50+ Group Fitness
A low impact class featuring cardio training, muscular strength and flexibility components.

60+ Group Fitness
A complete fitness class designed specially for the Active Aging.

Weightroom Training Circuit
A time efficient method of training using free weights, weights and cardio equipment.  Full body workout in one hour!

Athletic Drill Training
This high level class comibines endurance exercises and plyometrics to give you an intense athletic workout.

Boxerfit
Improve your co-ordination and speed with fun, basic boxing moves.  Stabilizing abdominal work to finish off.

Body Bar and Ball Combo
The weighted bar and dynamic properties of the ball are blended for a challenging and unique workout.

Butt and Abs Blast
The ultimate core workout for a totally toned physique.

Cardio Mix
An aerobics class for those looking for primarily a cardio workout.  This class offers step and other equipment.

Dancefit
A high energy workout for your body and spirit.  If you like to dance, this is the class for you!

Bellyfit
This class combines the cardio of Bellydance, the core strength of Pilates and the flexibility of Yoga.  Guaranteed to give you a complete workout - no experience required.

New Beginnings
The perfect class for participants just starting fitness or who have taken time off.  A mild aerobics and muscle training class that has an educational component.

Yoga - Drop-In
Give yoga a try!  These informative classes are suitable for beginner level and introduce postures in a safe, gentle fashion.  As always, you are encouraged to work at your own pace.

Jazzercise
Combines elements of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, kickboxing and yoga to create programs for all ages and fitness levels.  Get a great cardio workout with resistance training and stretching.

Jazzercise Circuit
Effective, full body training that keeps your heart rate up for longer by adding intervals of weight training throughout the cardio workout.

LeMond Spin Classes
Spin class is a fun cardio, no impact workout using a stationarey bicycle.  Simulating sprinting and hill climbing will enable you to build cardio fitness, muscle strength and endurance.  Classes are for all fitness levels as you are in control of the resistance level on your bike and how hard you work in class.  Spin training is a great accompaniment to any fitness program or sport including running, swimming, cycling and triathlon.

 
Water Fitness

Note: Bottom of pool can be slippery. Please wear socks to increase traction.

Aqua Therapy
A gentle waterfit class focusing on balance, stability, flexibility and endurance. This class is suitable for those with special limitations and is an additional step in the continuum of care from our registered water rehabilitation class. (Gordon Head Rec)

Aquajogger
Improve your running technique and prevent overuse injuries! Using workouts designed specifically for recreational to elite runners, this class will help you reach your running potential.

Water Walking
A fun no-bounce water fitness class for those recovering from injury, with arthritis, or simply wanting a mild class.

Waterfit
A high-energy self-paced chest deep workout focusing on cardiovascular conditioning. No swimming skills required

Deep Waterfit
A non-impact, high energy workout in deep water. Flotation belts and foam dumbbell will be used in this great combination of water running and fitness. Comfort in deep water is required.
