Saanich Parks & Recreation and The Saanich News Present the Saanich Parks 50th Anniversary Photo Contest
General Information
To celebrate Parks’ 50th Anniversary, Saanich News and Saanich Parks & Recreation invites you to participate in capturing images of Saanich’s beautiful and diverse parks.
We want to share photo images with the readers of Saanich News so that residents of Saanich can become better informed of what our extensive Park system offers. We could not think of a better time than a 50th anniversary to do this!
So please participate. We have no shortage of photographic subject matter within our Parks and we’re also giving away some very cool prizes.
Categories
Category One:
Natural environment: We’re looking for photos of the flora & fauna, terrain, landscape, panoramas and more – anything to do with a natural environment theme found within Saanich parks.
Category Two:
Sports: Action, fun and organized sports are a big part of our parks. We’d like to see photos of all those great activities such as football, soccer, lacrosse and many others. Saanich parks are extensively used for a wide range of sporting activities.
Category Three:
Casual use & recreation: There’s so much in this category to choose from to photograph including picnics, walking, jogging, hiking, cycling, dog walking, wedding ceremonies or even book reading! There is no end of casual uses to Saanich Parks.
Prizes
- 1 annual Saanich Recreation Access pass (all category winners to have their name entered in a draw)
- 1 round of golf for two at Cedar Hill Golf Course
- 6 Prize Packages of Parks 50th Anniversary Items (Coffee Mugs, T-Shirts, Lunch bags)
- 2 Prize Packages of Saanich News Promotional Items
- Notoriety (Published in the Saanich News!)
CONTEST RULES
- All judges’ decisions are final.
- By entering this contest I agree to and am bound to all of its rules.
- A Photo Release form must accompany each entry. Should you photograph a person’s image that is recognizable you NEED TO obtain a waiver from that individual in order to enter the contest – we strongly advise you obtain that permission PRIOR to taking a photograph of any person.
- Photos of people in large groups (i.e. team sports) where the participants are not recognizable do not require a waiver. Should a submitted photo (in our opinion) require a photo waiver and we did not receive one, we will endeavour to attempt to contact the photographer involved – however we cannot use the photo unless the waiver is obtained. It is the responsibility of the photographer to obtain the required waiver prior to taking the photo.
- Procedure for submitting waivers:
• Obtain permission prior to taking a photograph of any individual(s)
• Have the waiver completed fully and signed by a witness who was present at the time the subject signed the waiver. Double check to ensure the waiver was fully completed with all information.
• Fax or mail the waiver to Saanich Parks & Recreation. If mailing, send the original and keep a copy for your records. Fax to: 250-475-5411 or mail to Marketing Office, Saanich Parks & Recreation, 770 Vernon Avenue, Victoria, B.C. V8X 2W7.
- Images must be taken within the District of Saanich.
- Images must have been taken within the last 14 months up to, and including October 5, 2008.
- No digital manipulation of the image is permitted. Photographic techniques contained within a camera's abilities (i.e. a manual shutter release, or filters) and cropping, levelling and resizing are permitted.
- Entries will be judged on artistic merit, technical quality and best representation of Saanich Parks. Judge’s decisions are final.
- Limited to 1 entry per person, per category, please submit only your best photos!
- Each entrant is only eligible for a single award.
- Submitted photos will not be returned and become the property of Saanich Parks. The primary intent of this contest is to celebrate & showcase uses of Saanich Parks during the Parks 50th anniversary.
- Should Saanich Parks wish to keep & use images beyond the scope of this contest for commercial purposes, Saanich Parks will negotiate on an individual basis with the photographer involved for commercial use of any desired image.
- Prizes must be accepted as awarded.
- Contest closes midnight on Sunday, October 5th.
Instructions for Submitting Photo’s
All photos are to be e-mailed as an attachment to: RecSec@saanich.ca, and the subject line must contain the following information: Saanich Parks 50th Anniversary Photo Contest. Also we need to know the category you are submitting the photo under. There are 3 categories and you can only submit the photo under ONE of them.
Submission Criteria – Photo’s that do not meet these criteria will be deleted
- Only digital submissions accompanied with a photo release will be accepted
- Images must be 300 dpi or greater in resolution
- Submissions must be a maximum of 1 megabyte in size
- Please put “Saanich Parks 50th Anniversary Photo Contest” in the subject heading of the e-mail. Also include the “category” submitted under.
- Photos must be in the following format: .jpg
