Saanich Summer SunfestSaanich Parks and Recreation is pleased to invite you to participate in the Saanich Summer Sunfest this coming July and August.

Our goal in co-coordinating Sunfest is to encourage community participation in a series of fun and affordable community events that celebrate the beauty, diversity, and quality of life here in Saanich.

Gorge Canada Day Picnic

Celebrate Canada Day along the Gorge Waterway with a pancake breakfast, family parade, stage entertainment, classic cars, kids’ activities, canoe rides, buskers corner, street hockey, Strawberry Tea, Canada Day market, & more.  Event information: www.gorgetillicum.ca

Gorge on Art

Gorge on Art, a free community event, features over 45 invited professional and emerging artists displaying their work along the scenic Gorge Waterway.  Visitors have an opportunity to see paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics, watercolours, pastels, carvings and textiles, and to meet and discuss the artists' work.  Ongoing  musical entertainment, as well as, food and refreshments. Saanich Strawberry Festival

The Annual Saanich Strawberry Festival celebrates 43 successful years of community involvement and support.  The event originated as a celebration of the agricultural roots of Saanich and has blossomed into a grand festival for all ages.  Activities will include a petting farm, information displays, face painting, program demonstrations, pony rides, relay races, arts & craft stations, a pie eating contest, bouncy castles and much more. Bring a blanket and enjoy a day at the beach while a variety of performers entertain on the main stage. The afternoon would not be complete without the traditional serving of strawberries and ice cream at 2:00 pm for only 50 cents.

Gorge Historical Walking Tours

Join author, Dennis Minaker for a free historical walking tour of Saanich Gorge and Waterway parks.  These leisurely 2-hour tours will recall the glory days of the Gorge a century ago – a time of regattas, swimming galas, high diving towers, mansions (a few stairs) and more.  Meet along the walkway opposite Gorge View Drive.  Event information: 385-8884

Fun Day in the Park 2009Join us for our first annual Fun Day in the Park fundraiser for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. Take in some amazing live entertainment such as Dancing Moon, a West African high energy dance & drum group, as well as Mufaro, a Marimba group you don't want to miss. The Arts & Music at Glendale

Glendale Gardens and Woodland celebrates its gardens and Victoria artists with its 15th annual “The Arts & Music at Glendale”. This popular 2-day event attracts visitors who can view and purchase works of 60 local artists (including painters, printmakers, potters, sculptures, wood turners, jewellers, metalworkers, glass artists). New this year will be displays by local garden designers. Visitors will also have the opportunity to purchase plants cultivated at the Glendale Gardens and can sign up for a variety of gardening courses. Or visitors might like to just wander through our spectacular Gardens and listen to some wonderful live music.

Admission: $7.50, 2-day passes $10.00. Under 16 years old - no charge. Special entry fee to Gardens available this weekend only!
