Adaptable Housing Regulations
Are In Effect
Improving Saanich’s housing stock with more
accessible and adaptable housing is the reason behind
Council’s recent adoption of the Adaptable
Housing amendment to the Zoning Bylaw.
The amendment came into effect on June
1, 2004 at
which point all building
permits issued for apartment buildings with an
elevator must comply with the
new regulations.
The mandatory and voluntary design features are
based on universal design. Once incorporated, these
features will improve housing for people as they
age, or experience injury or illness reducing their
physical mobility. This will have a positive impact
on the economic and social lives of Saanich residents.
