IN SAANICH, SOLAR HOT WATER SYSTEMS ARE HERE TO STAY!

In 2008, Saanich was selected as a Solar Community by SolarBC to lead the promotion of solar hot water technology in our municipality. We want to help you get a solar hot water system in your home and tap into the free energy provided by the sun. You have questions and we have the answers!

1. Want to learn about Solar Hot Water Systems?
Learn about how this technology works and why all of BC is getting on board.

2. What is the cost of these systems?
With the amazing rebates available, the net costs are lower than ever.

3. Want a list of certified installers to talk with?
SolarBC has provided a directory of certified installers who know the ins and outs of solar technology, permitting and how to take advantage of the rebates available.

4. What is Saanich doing to help?
We have simplified the permitting process by having trained and knowledgeable inspectors available to ensure a smooth installation of your system. Plus, we will cover the cost your permit fee when you use a SolarBC certified installer.

Saanich has also set for Solar Strategy targets for the municipality:
Target 1 – 400 residential homes installed by 2010
Target 2 – 1 municipal building installation by 2010
Target 3 – solar hot water training for Saanich inspectors in 2009
Target 4 – 100 rebates to major renovation and new home installations

4. Can I get financing to cover the installation costs?
Yes!! SolarBC has connected with financial institutions through which you may be eligible for alternative energy loans.

Do you want to know how much solar energy is possible on your roof? SolarBC has teamed up with Green Power Labs to provide FREE solar assessments for British Columbians available at Solar Rating Online.

The SolarRating online tool is a fun way to find out how suitable your home is for solar hot water. As soon as you enter your address / postcode, the system knows you are in BC and a message comes up at the top of the screen, to say the report is provided free by SolarBC. SolarRating OnLine gives each home a color-coded rating and is the first step in understanding how solar technology might be used to reduce your family's energy costs.
